Alien abduction on Sims 2?

Can someone help one of my characters on Sims 2 was abducted by aliens while looking through her telescope. I looked up on it and read that they return in 3 hours but it's been 1 week (sim days) and she still hasn't returned worst of all both of her kids were taken away so no I have no one in the house. Is this normal???
