Have you ever been in a love triangle?

Not literally but figuratively? I dont mean u like two other people but you are in love with two people and in a relationship with one. The other person is a best male friend of mine from since high school. We have so much fun and have grown closer over the years and he is so intelligent and dependable and a gentleman. in my relationship I love my bf but hes not as dependable or reliable, he has bad credit and isnt as ambitious as he needs to be to move ahead in life. I am recently a new nurse and Im moving forward in life, he seems to be stagnant right now...this is my main issue and its been this way for a while, I cant be hindered by him not making progress forever...what should i do. I did not cheat or anything but its tempting however I have self control.
